$100 per day
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY: AN INTRODUCTION
For beginners looking to build up their courage photographing on the street, improve their compositions, meet fellow street enthusiasts, and get to know their city in a new way.
11am: Meet and Greet and Presentation
The day will start out with a meet and greet at Irving Farm on West 3rd street. Each student should bring in 5-10 examples of their street photography and be ready to discuss what they want to gain from this class. There will be a presentation and discussion of various techniques to approaching subjects on the street (differences between shooting candidly and the environmental portrait approach, etc). We will discuss ways of thinking and shooting on the street. Students will have an opportunity to shoot side-by-side with me to understand my approach and to develop their own techniques. We will look at the composition and approaches of various famous street photographers and draw inspiration from their images and working methods before we head out to shoot.
Quick Lunch (cost not included)
Shooting in Washington Square Park and the East Village
I will be shooting with you and will be there to assist you with any questions (from technical to creative).
Each student will choose at least 5 images they think are successful from the day's shoot. Images can be delivered to me via SD card or by email if they are IPhone images. We will discuss these images, focusing on their strengths, weaknesses, potential improvements, and the thought processes of the photographer during their decisive moment.
Farewell and Facebook Group
We will discuss where we go from here with our photography. I will create a private Facebook group where students can post their images and receive critiques and feedback.
All skill levels and camera systems are welcome, including IPhones.
Size: 8 people max.

NEW YORK CITY
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY AS SELF-THERAPY FOR THE MIND, BODY, AND SOUL.
Emphasis will be on how to use your camera to remove anxiety and bring attention & presence to your daily life. The day will start with an introduction to mindful street photography and a guided meditation in Washington Square Park followed by various photo exercises.
In this workshop you will learn to treat your camera as an observational tool and find ways to reduce anxiety and integrate street photography into your daily life. Our minds are usually too preoccupied by digital distractions to really pay attention to the present moment. In this class, you will learn to make expressive images and learn to find your photographic voice.
Don't think of photography as just making pictures. It is something deeper. It is about connecting yourself with the environment, society, and people around you.
PLEASE EMAIL ME TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT.
